Coconut Vanilla Chai Milkshake

A lot of people ask me what I do during the day as a stay at home mom.

For starters, I appreciate you asking me and not my husband, because according to him I’m relaxing.. πŸ™‚

Which is funny because this morning at 530 a.m., I spent a good 30 minutes washing a Baby from an unpleasant diaper change, all the while Mr. Know It All is snuggled up cozy in a warm bed snoozing away…

And I don’t know if you heard that first part..

530 a.m.

Β For a while Baby Boo woke up a little after seven, but then decided that there just needed to be more time in the day to play, so recently it’s been 530.

I guess 530 wouldn’t be so bad, if I went to bed at a decent time and didn’t stay up to watch Monday’s episode of the bachelorette. (Any one else find the cellular phone salesman a little QT) Don’t worry, my husband doesn’t mind, he’s sleeping.

It’s been somewhat of a struggle for me to switch from Ari mode to Mom mode, and things that amuse me, really don’t amuse Baby Boo. (She’s not all that into Cell Phone Guy..)

But somehow we manage, and some days I look at the clock and say, it’s ONLY 11! And other days Hubby comes home and I’m still in my PJ’s, Baby Boo is nakie, and I am far from what you would call Pleasant smelling.

On the other hand, this little one masked any smell that may have come her way with a sweet scent of cinnamon.

The Cinnamon Challenge was so 6 months ago for Baby Boo.

She clearly finds joy eating it straight out of the Bottle.

Don’t even try and take it away from her.

You will pay the price.

Roughly 5 bucks, because that’s how much it’s gonna cost to buy more cinnamon once it’s spilled all over the floor in a tantrum rage to retrieve it back.

Luckily for me I had used the cinnamon for my breakfast prior to the Ms. Cinnabuns craving.

  3. Your shakes looks delicious..
and your baby boo is soooo beautiful! I love the big old grin she has on her face with that cinnamon.. AND how she is practically passed out in her baby food!

  4. Smoothie looks great! I think being a stay at home mom is a tough job, I know I couldnt do it, but they say that the most unlikely people choose to stay home..so maybe one day

  5. eek, I couldn’t imagine eating cinn straight-up! haha. when she gets older you’ll have to use like, whole containers of cinnamon in your baked goods just so she can taste it with this early desensitizing to it πŸ˜›
    the smoothies look great!

  6. Oh my gosh – this looks sooooo good!! I saw Mama Pea’s recipe too and immediately saved it. Your version looks amazing, too!! I so wish I had room in my freezer for a tray of coconut ice cubes – haha πŸ™‚ My husband thinks that I relax all day, too – I just sit here, check my email, etc. etc. I love it when he is home with Carter for any amount of extended time because he quickly learns that a full day of play IS work πŸ™‚

    • haha yup we check e-mails, paint our toes, watch our shows, and shower!! we always have time to do our hair and makeup too right??!! πŸ™‚
That is good that your hubby understands when he stays home with the baby though πŸ™‚

  7. Wow, I really think being a stay-at-home mom is a tough job! Not that I’ve ever done it, but 5:30 AM diaper changes and baths? Doesn’t sound too relaxing to me! πŸ™‚

Your shake looks fantastic. I had chia pudding for breakfast… I bet that add some awesome pudding-ness to shakes. Afternoon snack, here I come!

I never thought to freeze coconut milk – definitely trying that since I always have some leftover when I open a can.

    • Silly me…I don’t proof read and I am so used to writting Chia not CHAI.. πŸ™‚ SO it is a CHAI drink, not CHIA..but you could def add them πŸ™‚
ANd I always freeze milk in treys for shakes and smoothies. Makes them creamier πŸ™‚

  11. Mmm I think I just found my afternoon snack! How many T of chia seeds do you use? I’m not seeing it on the ingredients…
    Thanks!

    • Haha- I just looked at Mama Peas and realized there aren’t any chia seeds! I think what you meant is chai instead of chia:) I was confused- sorry! Regardless, it looks yummy and I am still going to make it. And your daughter is so darn cute. Too bad we are related otherwise I’d be planning on hooking her up with my son:)

      • Kari! You were SOOO right! hahaha omg..I am so used to writting Chia not CHai!! AND..i wrote this at like 11 at night… πŸ™‚ THanks for helping me out!! I need you to proof read my post before they go out! πŸ™‚
And yes TOO bad we are related! πŸ™‚ haha

  12. Yum! I am totally not green drinked out. Both of those look amazing πŸ˜€ I love those spices. Also love the last picture, haha. I remember messes like that. I also love when people assume you sit at home all day because your a sahm. I have so much to say about that, but I’ll just leave it at that, haha.

  13. I just discovered your blog and absolutely love it!! That milkshake looks great and your baby is to die for cute!!!

I have to do a grocery run sometime within the next few days, and I have to make sure to pick up ingredients for this shake. It looks really delicious, and I have been craving cold drinks in DC’s awful summer heat

    • Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you visit often πŸ™‚
And smoothies and shakes are SO my go-to thing when it’s hot and humid and sticky from summer heat πŸ™‚

  16. Being a Mom has to be the toughest job on earth I swear. But seeing Baby Boo’s face everyday would be pretty darn amazing =)

  17. I doubt that Mama Pea will ever adopt me after saying this, but this kind of looks better than hers, fo’ realsies.
Also, Baby Boo is too cute. I. just. can’t. handle. it.

  22. Carissa says:

I just made your milkshake and it’s DELICIOUS! I love it. I also added some shredded coconut flakes too πŸ™‚ Thanks for the great recipe!

Also your daughter is WAY TOO CUTE. I loved the cinnamon picture – too cute!!

Thankfully my husband fully supports me being a stay at home mom πŸ™‚ and he shares the way early wakes ups with me! My son is 3 mos old, and normally sleeps til 8:30, but on the days he gets up at 6:30, my husband gets up with him because I was up for his night feedings. He is a good man.

    • Thank you so much for making it Carissa! I Love the idea of adding coconut! Yum!
And your hubby sounds like a GREAT man! Definitely a keeper! It’s nice to have a hubby that supports and helps you out :)!

  23. Hello! I made this recipe too, only I unfortunately did not have the success that you and Carissa have had. I posted pictures here;
    http://rediscoverthekitchen.blogspot.com/2012/06/recipe-review-coconut-vanilla-chai.html
Any idea what I did wrong? I loved the idea of this recipe so much, I just love anything chai so I was really disappointed when it didn’t turn out like yours.

    • Hi Rachel I’m so sorry that the recipe didn’t work out for you. I was looking at your page and you said it turned out slimy which seems weird to me because I make drinks similar to this multiple times a week, and never had a drink with slimy texture. Were the bananas really ripe/mushy? Just trying to figure this out because I feel bad! I also noticed that you made homemade coconut milk, which might have something to do with the texture. I use coconut milk from either the can/carton so it’s pretty thick and creamy, which helps with the consistency of the shake. Also you have to blend everything till its purΓ©ed and creamy. I’ll make this recipe soon so I can double check everything. Again so sorry for that!

    • Hi Rachel!
I made the drink this morning and it turned out like the original. So I’m really sorry it didn’t work out for you. Let me know if you figure it out! Thanks again!

      • Hello, thank you for replying. I am fairly certain that I used canned coconut milk (it would have been the Thai Kitchen brand) not the homemade stuff that day. Indeed I have made plenty of smoothies with both, and it has never changed the texture before or since. The bananas were very ripe, but not at all mushy, just that perfect level of sweetness. Again, I have made smoothies with bananas that were even riper than the one I used that day, and they have all come out perfect. Your recipe really seems like such a foolproof one, it is hard to see anything that could go wrong!

I know that I used Allspice where you listed pumpkin spice OR Allspice – have you noticed a difference with Allspice? The only other thing I can think of at this point is the brand and age of the spices, and therefore the intensity.

  24. I made the milkshake for breakfast this morning but tripled the recipe-we have 5 kids-& it was a big hit. I put the left overs in popsicle molds for this afternoon- we are due to hit 104! I’ll let you know how they are frozen-but I’m sure they will be great. Love you blog.

    • Love popsicles made from milkshakes!! What a great mom you are Andrea! And 104 makes me want to sit in a big tub of ice water…EEK!
      Thanks so much for reading!!

  25. The shakes look delicious. Your daughter I’d absolutely adorable! Your link to “mama pea: chocolate chai ” shake does not work. It’s a broken link.

  26. Hey I have a quick question. My friend gave me her coconut water she didn’t like the taste of it, I use it all the time for my smoothies. But I just now noticed it was Vanilla Chai flavored. Do you have any other ways I can use this up? maybe possibly a warm drink? I’m pretty tired of having smoothies and need a break for a bit. But would like to use this up and not waste it. πŸ™‚

  27. Roni g. says:

Tried and tested and enjoyed! I like that there’s a “morning” flavor to this so I can drink it as an alternative to coffee or tea. I even tried the green one. Yum! Thanks for sharing!
