And now for…

Be Prepared

rule 1

(Warning: The image you are about to see might be a little difficult…Under 18 not prohibited.)

clean out the pantryIMG_4005

Before you go all crazy and throw away your husbands Dorritos and Oreos and cause World War 3, let me further explain. Obviously we have all seen shows like The Biggest Looser where the tough and buff trainer comes in and yells in your face screaming, “Do you KNOW how many calories are in this?! Toss it!” Obviously I agree that having a nice healthy stocked pantry is definitely awesome, but cutting everything out cold turkey not only sets you up for failure, but also doesn’t allow yourself and your family a little wiggle room…

So by Cleaning Out The Pantry I literally want you to CLEAN it…

  • Wipe down and organize all that food. Toss old or unwanted food and organize it so you know what you have and where things are. (This will help later on when you are trying to stock your healthy pantry.)
  • Make an area that has all the ‘not so healthy food’ in one area, not scattered through out. Make it higher in reach so it’s not right off the bat visible. Also make it higher so little kids don’t quickly grab the cookies.
  • Have all the healthy snacks and foods right up front so that is the first thing you see when you open it.

Once your pantry is organized and you know what’s in it, it’s easier to cook and prepare meals each week because you know what you have/what you need. It’s also nice to visibly see what’s in your pantry for easy access when you or your little ones are craving a snack.

rule 2

IMG_4002new

I know that it’s not in everybody’s budget to go out and spend 500 dollars buying all different types of health foods! And let’s be honest, there is a chance that if you buy 5 different types of flours, you will end up never using all of them. Especially because you don’t know how to use them.

That’s why I think it’s a great idea to start off with ONE new thing, get to know it and learn whether you love it or hate it, and then the next time (when that new product has been used up all the way), try something new!

If you want a complete lists of healthy food ideas, I have two posts that may answer those questions:

Stocking A Healthy Pantry for Kids

The Ultimate Healthy Grocery List

Untitled

snackshealthy food on hand

One of the biggest things that can help you eat healthy & stay on track is having those healthy foods on hand!

  • Cut Veggies/Fruits at the beginning of the week so they are quick and easy to grab and eat right then, or available to use later on salads or add to dinner (makes cooking faster!)
  • Make a homemade snack at the beginning of your week that way it’s easy to grab throughout the week.

(Want to know the recipe for the muffins pictured above? It’s going to be in a e-book that i’m making all about Healthy Breakfast for Kids! Hopefully it will be done soon!)

Where do I begin-A Healthier New You & A Happier New Year

Step 1 //Start Small // Be Consistent

______________________________________________________________________

Oh Happy Day!

We are on Step 2 on the series of,

piccollage

step 2

I know that this seems like an EXTREME step…Fall in LOVE with exercise? Really? Step two?

Falling in love with exercise when you’ve pretty much always hated it your whole life is not easy, especially for me. To this day my biggest struggle IS exercise. And there are days where I treat exercise like a girl I’m totally jealous of. I talk about how much I hate it, disgusted by how perfect it is, but then deep down inside I wish exercise and I were BFF’s.

What? I never do that? Jk.

IMG_1015-1024x682

Then I have kids. Two under 3, and they hate when I exercise too. A lot. In fact they cry, throw tantrums, fall off tables, and make the biggest messes ever when I try to exercise…

(If you follow me on Facebook, I posted a picture that proves this.)

So how on earth does one FALL IN LOVE with exercise?  Whether you are at a point in your life where you work out a little, somewhat, never, or on occasion, falling in love with exercise IS possible.

And this is how…

102_33131

I’ve talked before about how I came to where I am in life, and before it all started I never exercised. Ever.

I remember the very first time I ever went on a run, it was horrible. I probably ran 30 seconds then walked 5 minutes, ran 30 seconds, walked 10 minutes. Each time my pace kicked it up a notch, I was already planning on when I was going to slow down.

But then what changed everything was that I did the same exact thing the following day, and the day after, and the day after that, and so forth! I started running 30 seconds, to 10 minutes, to 30, and so on. I LOVED IT! I looked forward to it on a daily basis and couldn’t wait to get out there and run.

I can’t explain it well through words, but I will never forget that feeling. The feeling of energy, strength, stamina, health, and endurance…It was amazing.

My workouts have changed since then, especially with having 2 babies in 3 years, a husband in medical school who now works 2 jobs and never seeing him…It’s tough.  I’ve had to re-learn to love exercise and remind myself and my body of that too.

I’m not saying you have to start running, because everybody has different likes and dislikes. This post is all about finding an exercise you could love, and fall head over heels for it.

I want you to feel what it’s like to fall in love with exercise, and to never forget that. Life will happen, and sometimes exercise won’t always be something that is happening, (for example, a really hard pregnancy that doesn’t allow it). But once you have felt the LOVE of exercise, you will have this desire to always go back…

Too Corny?

Even if it’s just 30 seconds on your first day, keep going. I’ve learned that the beginning is the hardest, that’s why it’s so so so so so important to Be Consistent and to keep on trying.

Little by little.

I promise you will learn to LOVE exercise just as much as I do!

Step 3 tomorrow! Can’t wait! xo

Starting a Healthy Lifestyle // Step One // Start Small – Be Consistent

Happy New Year Friends!!

I just LOVE the feeling of having a fresh start! For some reason there is just a comfort that comes a long with starting over and doing things BETTER than before, right?!

New Year!!

Today is DAY 1 // Step 1 on the series of,

piccollage

step 1

Does anyone remember ONE Year ago I talked a lot about Being Consistent?!? Well I’m bringing it up again, because I truly truly believe it is the most important thing when starting a Healthier Lifestyle….

But more on that later.

pic1

The First Step to starting a Healthier Lifestyle is all about making Small Choices (consistently).

How many of you have tried to loose weight every new year?

You buy all the healthy food at the grocery store, you plan on working out every day for an hour and a half, and you stop completely drinking soda and eating chocolate cake.

By day three you are over it, and you are back to where you started! Taking on TOO much of Something NEW is never a good thing!

That’s why when making the switch to living a healthier lifestyle, make it a small, consistent, and steady switch!

Screen shot 2013-12-31 at 10.34.20 PM Screen shot 2013-12-31 at 10.36.29 PM

The LAST thing I want you to do is go out and spend hundreds just on food that eventually you might never eat! So start small!

Exercise has always been one of the most challenging areas, for me, and I’ve definitely learned if I take on too much pressure, I automatically give up!

START SMALL! Walk, don’t run. Gradually you will see that your ability to push yourself will grow, and then before you know it you will be running farther & longer!

pic 2

Now…How will all this work?

I’m going to bring you back to the beginning of this post where we talked about being CONSISTENT. I can’t talk enough about how important consistency plays into developing habits! :).

The main thing I want you to get out of this post is,

As long as you are consistently making small and simple healthy choices at least once a day, you will begin to see a change!

Even if all you do is drink lots of water that day, that’s amazing!

Or it’s 10 o clock at night and you haven’t worked out at all so you quickly do 15 pushups, that’s great! You are being consistent!

Stay tuned tomorrow for Step 2! What do you think it will be about??

All About The Diva Dish (Video)

I’m so excited to finally share this video with all of you, it’s been a long work in progress!

For a while, I’ve been wanting to have a video to briefly let others know what this blog, The Diva Dish, is all about. After a lot of help from my incredibly talented brothers, we were able to finish it!

Thanks again friends for sharing along this journey with my family to a healthy & happier life! Much love to you all xoxo!!

Diva Adventures: Las Vegas House of Blues Gospel Brunch

This past Sunday our little family was invited to The House of Blues for the Kirk Franklin’s Gospel Brunch!

We’ve never done something like this, so I knew immediately that this would be a fun opportunity and experience. Vegas has proven to not be the most kid friendly place, but this was definitely something that both the girls enjoyed.

We were treated to an amazing Southern Buffet of biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, eggs, fruit, salads, shrimp, fresh juice…Oh and did I mention biscuits?? I think my husband had 8. I will not divulge on how many I had…

I must also add that the staff was amazing! They were the nicest to my crazy kids, which doesn’t happen often at restaurants and shows :).

After the buffet brunch we listened to an incredibly talented gospel choir! Honestly, I’ve heard gospel music before, but never seen a choir perform in person! Holy amazing voices! Half the time I kept looking at my husband and saying, “Ok..she’s good!” On the way home I kept practicing my gospel choir voice and kept trying to prove to my husband I could do it. 🙂

Overall it was such a fun and exciting experience, especially since it was so family friendly. I took a quick video of Boo dancing, because I’ve honestly NEVER seen her move that way! So many people kept coming up to me talking about how much they loved her. I guess she really was moved by the music!

I’m so glad my family had the opportunity to attend this event! If you are near a House of Blues, check out the Gospel Brunch! It’s such a fun experience, especially if you have little kids that love music and dance :)!

*I was not paid to write this post, but was given complimentary tickets to attend this event. All opinions are my own.

Three

I couldn’t be more blessed to have this little THREE year old princess in my life! We spent the first part of the day with a house full of balloons & streamers. Followed by a walk to the donut shop for, you guess it…PINK donuts! Then we took a trip to every Princess’ dream store…The Disney Store! Stories were read, dresses were admired, and birthday songs were sung. Of coarse a new princess dress came home with us! Next we rode the train and all the quarter machine rides!

Once we got home, the little princess decorated her Pink cake with all of her favorite things, Spirnkles & Chocolate Candies. Followed by singing Happy Birthday, blowing out candles, and making wishes.

And the day ended the best way possible for this little princess, which was a trip to Grandmothers house…In California! Now she’s sitting on the grass, playing Tea Party, and getting ready for her Princess Party this weekend!

I Love you Boo! Thanks for making these past THREE years the greatest that I could have ever experienced!

To My 3 Year Old Princess

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
(Boo will be turning 3 in just a few short weeks and I can’t believe it! I thought I would write a little letter to her, and let her know how much I love her!)

To my 3 year old Princess…

Sometimes I feel like there isn’t enough time in the day to tell you how much that I love you.

To tell you how grateful I am for you sass and your drama.

To say thank you for making me laugh and smile on a constant basis.

I love to hear you tell me stories, take care of your baby sister, and watch you play with your princess toys.

I could sit and watch you all day as you dance and sing at the top of your lungs. Sometimes I think you are imagining yourself on stage in front of millions, performing and entertaining.

And even though it’s hard, I admire your determination and stubborn-ness. At times those tears of yours can have a whole entire store watching your broadway performance…

But you know what, I love it. You are a strong and sensitive young woman and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I hope you know that I’ll always love you Boo. That I’ll be there for you whenever you need me. Even when your 16 and that stupid boy breaks your heart. I’ll kill him for you without question… 🙂

Promise me that you will do your best to remain pure and wholesome in world surrounded with pain, suffering, selfishness, and unkind things. I have no doubt that you will be the diamond in rough.

Also, promise me you won’t hate me when you turn 12. I know that you are probably going to want to wear short shorts, say things like WTF, and want to kiss all the boys…But stick with barbies and princesses for well…a long time. I’ll do my best not to embarrass you on a daily basis, and I’ll even try to wear regular pants instead of yoga pants when I pick you up from school!

Thank you for being the best 3 year old in my life my little princess! I wouldn’t have you any other way!

Love,

Mommy!

Birthday’s & Mother’s Day 2013

Everything about this past weekend makes me happy! First celebrating the hub’s birthday with sugar and terrifying jumps off of buildings, followed by cuddles with my two baby girls. I couldn’t ask for a greater blessing than to be the mother of my daughters. Sometimes life isn’t the way we always expect it, but when I remind myself how truly blessed I am to share my life with my beautiful healthy family I can’t help smile and be grateful for what my Heavenly Father has blessed me with!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
